20% of UK fraud is Mortgage related

During the first 6 months of 2010, mortgage fraud accounted for 20% of all reported incidents. During times of financial difficulty you often see increases in fraud, this certainly seems to be the case in the UK.

The half-year figures show fraud losses of £1.06 billion! This is a 2% increase on the same figure for 2009, showing that mortgage crime as a total percentage is on the rise – with month on month growth across the UK. 49% of all fraud in the UK takes place within the Finance and Insurance sector, which is a substantial amount.

With mortgage fraud on the increase there will be more stringent checks in place to try to minimise lenders exposure, this could well cause difficulties for genuine borrowers.

If you think you have been mis-sold a mortgage or payment protection insurance Cloud 9 Claims will be able to help you.
